Comtrade Gaming’s Steven Valentine: Multi-brand framework drives competition and sophistication in Brazil’s market iGame

Comtrade Gaming’s Steven Valentine: Multi-brand framework drives competition and sophistication in Brazil’s market

(AsiaGameHub) - In preparation for SiGMA South America 2026, Steven Valentine, the Chief Commercial Officer of Comtrade Gaming, discussed the firm's expansion into Brazil and its advancements in artificial intelligence with Focus Gaming News. Exclusive interview.- With Brazil's regulated igaming market transitioning from potential to reality, the emphasis throughout Latin America is quickly moving toward operational performance, regulatory compliance, and enduring sustainability. Against this backdrop, Comtrade Gaming is establishing itself as more than just a new entrant, with the goal of assisting operators in managing the intricacies of an active regulatory system. During SiGMA South America 2026, Focus Gaming News interviewed Steven Valentine, chief commercial officer, regarding the practical challenges of Brazil's new regulatory system, the expanding significance of AI in managing players, and the ways multi-platform approaches are transforming the competitive landscape in the region. SiGMA South America 2026 occurs at a pivotal time for regulated market growth in Latin America. What are Comtrade Gaming’s primary goals for this year's event, and how would you describe the evolution of your role in the Brazilian market since regulations were implemented? SiGMA South America is happening at a critical juncture as Brazil's market has moved from a theoretical opportunity to practical implementation. At Comtrade Gaming, our priority is on expansion — we are already operational, certified, and providing support to operators within the regulated framework. The discussion now centers on efficiency, adherence to rules, and sustained reliability. Our role has logically progressed from initial market penetration to aiding operators in refining their operations and expanding within a fully regulated environment. “SiGMA South America comes at a key moment where Brazil has shifted from opportunity to execution.” Steven Valentine, chief commercial officer at Comtrade Gaming. Following the achievement of GLI certification and the integration of Brazilian clients, what are the most significant operational or technical difficulties operators are currently encountering, and how does your platform assist them in managing this new regulatory framework? The primary difficulty is not achieving certification, but rather functioning daily within a dynamic and changing regulatory structure. Operators are managing obligations for real-time reporting, local system integrations, and ensuring consistent performance as regulatory demands keep evolving. Our platform is built to manage this complexity. We employ a modular approach that enables operators to adjust swiftly, and we act as a collaborative partner in understanding regulation, not merely as a technology supplier. Your company has made significant investments in AI-powered tools for analyzing player behavior and making predictions. How are these solutions advancing in 2026, and what concrete benefits are they delivering for player lifetime value and operator efficiency? AI is now fundamental to how operators manage the balance between expansion and oversight. Our current emphasis is on predictive tools that work in real-time — assessing a player's value, risk of leaving, and behavioral trends while they are still engaged. The outcomes are measurable: enhanced player lifetime value, more effective bonus allocation, improved profit management, and more robust tools for promoting responsible gambling. Brazil's licensing model, which allows for multiple brands, has fostered intense competition. What is your outlook on the multi-platform trend for 2026, and what qualities make Comtrade Gaming a durable partner instead of a temporary fix? Brazil's multi-brand framework is fostering a market that is both more competitive and advanced. Operators are more frequently turning to multi-platform tactics to distinguish their offerings and maintain adaptability. Comtrade Gaming's function is to provide that adaptability — facilitating integration, growth capacity, and ongoing development. This is what establishes us as a strategic ally, not a temporary provider. “Operators are increasingly adopting multi-platform strategies to differentiate and stay flexible.” Steven Valentine, chief commercial officer at Comtrade Gaming. You have repeatedly stressed the value of having a local presence, such as assembling a technical team that speaks Portuguese. How has this commitment to localizing your operations resulted in a stronger market position and improved client loyalty in the region? I consider it an essential requirement rather than a simple advantage; forming substantial partnerships is not feasible without a team that can communicate in the local language. Looking forward to the coming 12–18 months, what key achievements, be they in partnerships, product development, or regional growth, will characterize Comtrade Gaming’s subsequent growth stage in the Americas? In the next 12–18 months, our attention is on effective implementation and manageable growth. This involves enlarging our presence in Brazil, maintaining our investment in AI and product development, and pursuing careful expansion in other Latin American markets as their regulatory landscapes mature. The goal is straightforward: to cement our status as a reliable, long-term partner within regulated markets. This article is provided by a third-party. Malta Gaming Authority Dismisses Criminal Activity Allegations After ‘Unacceptable’ Hack

(AsiaGameHub) - A German researcher alleges that material exposing unlawful conduct was discovered following a hack of the MGA. Germany.- The Malta Gaming Authority has dismissed allegations of criminal activity made by a researcher who says she infiltrated its systems. In a Friday (March 20) statement, the MGA labelled the hack as “unacceptable and incompatible with lawful engagement with public institutions and established governance frameworks,” also dismissing the unspecified claims as “unsubstantiated”. The regulator had previously released a statement acknowledging a security breach in one of its systems. Without giving specifics, it confirmed it had activated internal response protocols for an incident it was handling “with the utmost seriousness”. A German security researcher subsequently took credit for breaching the gambling regulator's systems. Lilith Wittmann, who identifies as an ethical hacker, stated on social media that she accessed records including operator compliance files and player data, along with material she alleges connects the MGA to organized crime within Malta's gambling sector. On Twitter, she posted: “Yes, we will expose the organised crime enablement schemes you created while presenting yourselves as a ‘legitimate public service’.” She further cautioned that any law enforcement action in Malta would “trigger the immediate release of my entire archive of igaming-related data“. “I am certain that the information obtained is so valuable for the public discourse that obtaining it will one day, in the not-too-distant future, be seen as a justified necessity,” she added. Dear Malta Gaming Authority,Yes, I hacked you, and the data obtained has been shared with media partners, authorities,….And yes, we will expose the organized crime enablement schemes you created while presenting yourselves as a “legitimate public service”. pic.twitter.com/Z7EqRnNbCk— Lilith Wittmann (@LilithWittmann) March 20, 2026 The MGA stated in its Friday response: “The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is aware of public statements made by an individual claiming responsibility for unauthorised access to one of the Authority’s systems and making a series of allegations and threats in that context. The MGA condemns any unauthorised access to its systems and any extraction, handling or dissemination of data obtained through such activity. Such conduct is unacceptable and incompatible with lawful engagement with public institutions and established governance frameworks. “The Authority operates within a robust legal and regulatory framework and carries out its statutory functions with integrity, independence and accountability. Allegations made in the context of unauthorised system access are unsubstantiated and do not undermine the MGA’s role as a regulator committed to transparency, due process and the rule of law. “For more than two decades, the MGA has operated within established legal and governance frameworks, and will continue to do so. Ensuring that the Authority’s work, and the industry it regulates, operate with integrity and accountability is paramount.” This article is provided by a third-party. UK gambling levy implementation draws criticism iGame

UK gambling levy implementation draws criticism

(AsiaGameHub) - The Gambling Lived Experience Network (GLEN) has voiced apprehension following the initial prevention funding allocations in England. UK.- The allocation of funds from the new UK gambling levy is already generating discussion. The Gambling Lived Experience Network (GLEN) reports that the initial prevention funding distributions in England have caused disquiet among voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations. The funding, overseen by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), was announced to applicants only 13 days prior to the commencement of the new funding cycle. While this disclosure offers certainty for certain charities, it has compelled others to confront tough decisions regarding their operational continuity or the closure of services, according to GLEN. Stakeholders contend that the problem extends beyond who secured funding, encompassing also the timing and framework of the process, which allows minimal scope for transition planning, especially for entities assisting vulnerable populations. The gambling levy is projected to yield approximately £100m annually. The Gambling Commission commenced collecting these funds in September 2025 as directed by the government. This system aims to offer stable, long-term funding for prevention, treatment, and research, superseding the prior arrangement of voluntary donations, where GambleAware managed fund distribution. Nevertheless, GLEN cautions that failing to maintain current capacity could lead to the appearance of gaps in provision. Apprehensions have also surfaced regarding whether funding determinations align with actual demand, alongside questions about the preparedness of government agencies responsible for implementation. GLEN proposed that the competitive funding model was “needlessly reckless,” cautioning that commissioning choices made without a clear understanding of present requirements risk eradicating services that might subsequently become vital. The group emphasized that numerous small, specialist charities depend wholly on gambling harm funding. “Any reduction in funding for gambling harm prevention efforts will probably present an existential threat to their ongoing viability. Once removed from the system, they will probably remain lost,” it cautioned. It further critiqued government scoring mechanisms that prioritize single regional providers, putting smaller organisations at a disadvantage. GLEN Network Developer Mark Conway posted on LinkedIn: “Calculators will have been operating excessively, and perhaps hitting walls repeatedly. Those letters already drafted and addressed to staff who are now financially unsustainable will very unwillingly be prepared for dispatch.” OHID, a division of the Department of Health and Social Care, possesses limited previous engagement with gambling harms. NHS England, tasked with gambling treatment, is itself undergoing significant reorganization, with stakeholders observing an absence of clarity surrounding its funding determinations. Regarding the research aspect of gambling levy funding, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is progressing with plans to institute its Gambling Research Programme and has initiated recruitment for a department head to spearhead the endeavour.

Isle of Man gambling regulator seeks feedback on proposals to levy penalties on essential personnel at operators iGame

Isle of Man gambling regulator seeks feedback on proposals to levy penalties on essential personnel at operators

(AsiaGameHub) - This proposed change would hold individual employees of gambling operators accountable for violations related to anti-money laundering (AML) or know-your-customer (KYC) regulations. The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC) in the UK has initiated a consultation period for the proposed Gambling Legislation (Amendment) Bill 2025. These reforms aim to increase the responsibility placed on individuals within gambling operations, potentially leading to direct personal fines for managers and key personnel who fail to adhere to anti-money laundering (AML) or know-your-customer (KYC) requirements. The initiative seeks to expand the scope of civil penalties to encompass employees, not just licensed operators. Sanctions could be applied in cases where breaches occur due to "consent, connivance, or simple negligence." This new framework will subject gaming operators' directors, compliance officers, and senior executives to greater scrutiny, as their day-to-day decisions significantly influence anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures. The regulator is soliciting feedback from the industry before finalizing these amendments. Submissions will be accepted until May 25, and an online question-and-answer session is scheduled to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to voice concerns and discuss the implications of personal liability. These developments follow a £200,000 fine imposed by the GSC on Shelgeyr Limited, the owner of Maverick Games, in February. The fine was a result of identified significant deficiencies in customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, and account monitoring. Officials indicated that these shortcomings pointed to systemic issues rather than isolated errors, underscoring the necessity for more robust compliance mechanisms. Concurrently, the GSC has intensified its assessment of money laundering risks within the Isle of Man's gambling sector. Its most recent National Risk Assessment highlights persistent concerns regarding Southeast Asian criminal networks, in addition to other global challenges. The regulator has determined that the Isle of Man's gambling industry as a whole now presents a "medium high" risk for money laundering, an increase from "medium" five years ago. Online gambling has been categorized similarly. This report comes after the GSC's assessment last year, which classified gambling as a medium-low risk for terrorist financing in its inaugural standalone Terrorist Financing National Risk Assessment (TFNRA). Robson Silveira of Sportradar says the company left SAGSE with a stronger commitment to further innovate and expand its streaming offerings

(AsiaGameHub) - Robson Silveira, Sportradar's senior sales executive for Streaming, offered his perspective on the firm's involvement in the Buenos Aires event. Exclusive interview.- Sportradar took part in this month's SAGSE Buenos Aires. The company's involvement in the Latin American gaming industry gathering was highly positive, particularly regarding its streaming offerings. Robson Silveira, Sportradar's senior sales executive for streaming, provided his post-expo reflections, explaining the significance of attending such events. He also detailed the key subjects covered during the conference. How would you evaluate Sportradar’s participation at SAGSE Buenos Aires? Our involvement in SAGSE Buenos Aires was highly successful, most notably from the standpoint of our streaming solutions. The occasion underscored the energy of the Latin American gaming sector and its rising demand for novel fan engagement technology. We engaged in substantial conversations about how our state-of-the-art streaming services are emerging as a vital competitive advantage for operators aiming to attract viewers and foster deeper interaction. Attending enabled us to engage directly with partners, demonstrating how our full streaming suite allows them to offer genuinely engaging and dynamic betting experiences.

Cease security expenditures, generate revenue from it: How Frogo is redefining the igaming ROI

(AsiaGameHub) - Focus Gaming News sat down for a conversation with Frogo CEO Volodymyr Todurov about his “One Leap Ahead” philosophy, exploring how repositioning risk management from a cost center to a growth driver delivers tangible benefits for platform operators. Exclusive interview. – In the fast-paced igaming space, anti-fraud teams have historically been seen as an unavoidable cost center that consumes significant budgets to stop losses, frequently compromising user experience in the process. But as the sector continues to mature, a new way of thinking is gaining traction. At Frogo, CEO Volodymyr Todurov is reframing the core focus of risk management. The aim is to go beyond basic defensive measures and demonstrate how a robust security framework can unlock entirely new growth opportunities. Focus Gaming News spoke with Volodymyr to dive into the “One Leap Ahead” framework, the obsolescence of traditional scoring methods, and why your most critical fraud alert could in fact be your next major VIP opportunity. The paradigm shift: From cost center to profit generator The sector has long seen anti-fraud measures as a “cost center” or a required burden. How does Frogo’s approach turn this idea on its head to turn fraud prevention into a legitimate profit-driving tool? It all begins with a core shift in perspective. Most existing systems are designed solely to identify malicious actors, while overlooking the need to support legitimate users. At Frogo, we deploy adaptable, dynamic rules that let us eliminate unnecessary hurdles for genuine customers. This has a direct positive impact on both conversion and retention metrics for operators. One of our key competitive advantages is our approach to scoring. We identify behavioral patterns for both fraudulent activity and high-value VIP user traits at the same time. Since these detection triggers operate in parallel, the resulting data is not locked away exclusively with the anti-fraud team. It is shared in real time with the retention, payments, VIP management and product teams. Consider a straightforward example related to automation. Without Frogo, a bug in a payment service provider (PSP) integration could lead to a user being credited with an incorrect, excessive deposit amount. If that user spends the funds, the operator loses money, and is still responsible for paying game provider fees on that non-existent “phantom” revenue. With Frogo, we automatically freeze that balance the second the unusual activity is detected. We don’t only stop the financial loss from the fraud itself; we also eliminate the downstream operational costs that cut into operator margins. The friction dilemma: Safeguarding the VIP user experience Within the igaming space, added “friction” for users is widely considered a top enemy. How do you make sure that strengthening security controls does not unintentionally push away high-value players and legitimate user traffic? You can’t operate without clear visibility. We leverage a functionality called the “Feedback Loop”. We cross-reference the actual decisions made by an operator’s internal team against the alerts generated by our system. This lets us measure the exact precision and accuracy of every individual scoring policy we deploy. On top of that, our rules engine is highly precise and targeted. We are able to set up exclusions for any specific user segment. Before a client rolls out a new policy hypothesis to live users, we send test notifications directly to their team’s Telegram or Slack channels. This lets the team run real-time “shadow tests” of their threshold settings before linking them to automated action workflows. We also run analyses of historical data to show exactly how a new detection trigger would have impacted prior transactions. The goal is to operate as a precise scalpel, not a blunt, one-size-fits-all sledgehammer. Case study: When a “fraud” alert revealed a hidden growth opportunity “Turn losses into profit” is an ambitious promise. Can you walk us through a real-world scenario where your platform actually uncovered an untapped growth opportunity? This is one of my favorite examples. We once detected a pattern of users making multiple, large-value deposits without ever engaging in gameplay. For a basic, off-the-shelf detection system, this would appear to be clear anti-money laundering (AML) risk, with individuals using the casino platform as an unregulated money transfer service. Our deeper analysis split these users into two separate, distinct groups. Group A were, as expected, engaging in fraudulent activity. But Group B? They were long-trusted VIP users who were hitting transaction limits imposed by their PSP. They wanted to place large wagers, but the poor user experience forced them to complete five separate transactions just to load their desired starting bankroll onto the platform. We notified the operator’s VIP management and Payments teams of this finding. They adjusted PSP limits for this specific user segment, and the retention team sent a personalized communication to these VIP users informing them of their “upgraded” transaction limits. The outcome? The following week recorded the highest VIP retention rate the operator had seen in an entire quarter. We turned a standard “suspicious activity” alert into a major win for high-tier user loyalty. The bespoke approach: Why “mass-market” solutions underperform for risk management Frogo markets itself as a premium, selective partner for operators. Why opt for a boutique, consultancy-focused operating model at a time when mass-market SaaS solutions are ubiquitous? Because generic, one-size-fits-all solutions carry major risks in the risk management space. Pre-built scoring models work well enough for the first week of deployment, but fraud tactics evolve by the hour. Effective anti-fraud measures require ongoing, daily attention and adjustment. Operators are constantly rolling out new promotions, onboarding new affiliate partners, or integrating new PSPs. Each of these changes shifts the overall risk profile. We are not just a software supplier; we function as an extension of our clients’ internal teams. We prioritize “operational excellence”, which translates to reducing false positive alerts and required manual reviews to the lowest possible level. This is impossible to achieve with a generic, one-size-fits-all algorithm. As bonus abuse and cost-per-acquisition (CPA) fraud grow increasingly sophisticated, how will Frogo’s “One Leap Ahead” framework shift the competitive landscape for operators in 2026? The solution lies in true real-time scoring. Operators do not need a report delivered “next Monday” informing them that an affiliate partner has sent fraudulent traffic. They need an alert the moment deposit patterns cross an unusual threshold. Frogo delivers the context behind the data snapshots. We don’t only notify you that a key metric has changed; we explain why it shifted, which user segments drove the change, and how to mitigate any associated losses while retaining legitimate players. In 2026, the market winner will not be the operator with the highest security wall, but the one with the most intelligent, user-centric access controls. Volodymyr and the Frogo team are demonstrating that their platform is far more than a vanity solution – it embodies the level of agility needed to thrive in today’s igaming ecosystem. By combining AI-powered forecasting with a hands-on, personalized consulting model, Frogo is successfully repositioning fraud prevention as a core business optimization tool. In a space full of bad actors looking to exploit gaps, there is a clear advantage to being the operator that has full visibility across its entire operation. ECJ declares gambling operators must adhere to licensing rules of individual EU member states.

(AsiaGameHub) - An opinion has been issued by Advocate General Nicholas Emiliou concerning a legal action filed against Tipico. Luxembourg.- Nicholas Emiliou, an Advocate General (AG) at the European Court of Justice, has delivered a further opinion on a player loss case initiated in Germany. The request for this opinion came from Germany’s Federal Court of Justice. This specific lawsuit targets the gambling operator Tipico in an attempt to recover player losses that occurred during a period when online gambling was not licensed in Germany. The matter was passed to the ECJ in July 2024. According to Emiliou, the ECJ's view is that gambling providers are obliged to adhere to the licensing regulations of individual EU member states, as long as those rules are consistent with the bloc's principles on the free movement of services. Interpreting Article 56 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), he commented: “Where a Member State requires a licence for the provision of certain services on its territory, and that requirement is, in itself, compatible with Article 56 TFEU, the national authorities, including the courts, are entitled to enforce that requirement against an operator which has provided services without the required licence.” The Advocate General made it clear that member states maintain the authority to establish their own gambling regulations, acknowledging the “significant moral, religious and cultural differences between the Member States” in how games of chance are perceived. He added, “The national authorities remain entitled, as regards their national territory, to adopt the regulatory arrangements which they consider appropriate to protect consumers against those risks, provided that the principle of proportionality is respected.” It is important to note that the ECJ's opinion deals solely with a particular aspect of EU law and does not settle the case, which will ultimately be ruled on by the German court. Previously, in September, Emiliou had provided an opinion on case C‑440/23, which was referred by a Maltese civil court concerning Germany's blocking of gambling websites licensed in Malta. In that finding, Emiliou considered Germany's blocking of access to Maltese-licensed online casinos to be valid and determined that civil claims by players against operators without a local licence do not represent an abuse of EU law. This would bolster the legal foundation for player loss cases initiated against platforms holding Maltese licenses. The opinion also concurred with the claimants that the contracts between players and operators were void under applicable contract law. This article is provided by a third-party. Polish Police Confiscate Illegal Slot Machines and Cash Stashed in Children’s Toys

(AsiaGameHub) - A series of raids targeting suspected illegal gambling venues took place in Warsaw, Piaseczno, and Grodzisk. Poland – Reports indicate that police have dismantled an illegal cross-border gambling ring following the discovery of unlicensed slot machines during raids in Warsaw, Piaseczno, and Grodzisk. Six individuals are believed to have been taken into custody. Law enforcement officials are said to have searched eight apartments and 13 business premises suspected of housing illegal gambling activities. They seized 57 slot machines and over 350,000 złoty (approximately €82,000) in multiple currencies, a large portion of which was hidden inside stuffed toys. Per a statement issued by the Finance Ministry on Friday (today), investigators also found 25 grams of marijuana at one of the sites. Among those arrested is the purported leader of the operation—a 44-year-old Polish national with a previous assault conviction, according to reports. The other five detained individuals consist of three Polish men and two Ukrainian citizens (one man and one woman). All six were taken to the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, where they face charges of being part of an organized criminal group and running illegal gambling operations. Two of the suspects are in pre-trial detention, while the remaining four are under police supervision. Additionally, 11 employees thought to be linked to the gambling venues face charges for engaging in unlawful gaming operations. Authorities note that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests may be made. This article is provided by a third-party.

Selain itu, the bill seeks to prohibit prop bets on athletes competing for Kentucky colleges.
